Preparing the home before photography ensures every detail reflects its true value. This checklist helps owners and cleaners present each property at its best - bright, organized, and guest-ready for every shoot.
Replace with fresh linens, ensure no wrinkles or hair visible. Lint roll if applicable
Dust all surfaces: nightstands, lamps, headboards, vents, and baseboards.
Wipe mirrors and interior windows.
Vacuum floors, rugs, and under beds.
Bathrooms
Remove all used towels and trash.
Scrub toilet, sink, shower, and tub (check for soap scum or hair).
Clean mirrors and chrome fixtures until streak-free
Restock amenities:
Toilet paper (3+ rolls per bathroom, with one on holder)
Hand soap
Shampoo & conditioner
Body wash
Towels, washcloths, bathmat
Wipe cabinet fronts and baseboards.
Ensure floor is fully dry and spotless.
Kitchen
Wipe down all countertops, cabinet fronts, backsplash, and handles.
Clean inside microwave, oven, toaster, and coffee maker.
Check fridge shelves for spills or residue - wipe thoroughly.
Wash and store dishes; no residue, streaks, or food left behind.
Spot check unused dishes for duck.
Restock:
Coffee or pods, paper towels, dish soap
Trash bags, basic cleaning spray
Sweep and mop floors last.
Living Room & Common Areas
Dust all surfaces including furniture, shelves, decor, and vents.
Vacuum carpets, rugs, and under furniture.
Wipe TV screens and remotes (ensure batteries work). Additionally test wifi through the TV, if apps like Netflix open and load then the Wifi is functional.
Pull cushions off sofa to vacuum. Once placed back on sofa, try to get clean vacuum lines on the sofa. Lastly get under any raised furniture checking for dust and trash.
Replace burnt out light bulbs
Outdoor Areas & Amenities
Sweep decks, porches, patios, and entry areas.
Wipe down outdoor furniture and arrange neatly.
Clean grill grates and exterior if applicable.
For special amenities, check with the owner on how to proceed, and make sure they’re opened and ready for photos. This includes but is not limited to hot tubs, pools, and fire pits.
Ensure pathways are clear, outdoor lights functional, and yard free of trash.
Flag any landscaping needs, or excessive pet waste if applicable.
